Karen Hayselden created this wonderful tree assemblage using an MDF shape as a substrate
I had the urge to create a primitive style decoration as I love the natural base colour of this Christmas tree. I coated the tree with three or four coats of gesso mixed with talcum powder to give the tree a lovely thick, textured surface and as it dried I scratched in the deep grooved lines until the natural base colour peeped through.
Once completely dry, I filed off the gesso around the edges to expose the beautiful natural base colour. The gesso covered surface was then randomly stamped and a little foil was applied for added shine. The bells were coated with a touch of dry brushed gesso and Treasure Gold.
Finally my Holly Wally design stamp was coloured in very slowly to build the layers of colour a little at a time until he starts to glow! 'Oh Christmas Tree' was simply stamped on an old used brown envelope!
