Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Here are the instructions for the fabulous cards in our travel-themed gallery (September 2011 issue).

Dream Destination - Designer: Kate McNicholas for Pickleberry Papercrafts

Stamps used... 7 Gypsies - Conservatory; Pink Paislee - Daily Junque; Tim Holtz - Stuff to Say and Bitty Grunge; The Artistic Stamper - Calligraphic; MoBe - Jeans Alphabet

Create a photo mat using layers of Black Soot Distress Core’dinations and a Sizzix Edge Die; sand the edges. Die cut Ranger White Sticky Back Canvas with a Sizzix Edge Die, swipe with Antique Linen Distress Stain then stamp with the calligraphy stamp. Die cut Salt Dotted Swiss card with a Sizzix Ornamental Die, swipe with Distress Stain and stamp ‘Dream’ with MoBe Jeans Alphabet. Stamp white card with Daily Junque map stamp then die cut letters to spell ‘Destination’. Create a butterfly accent with the Conservatory stamps, acetate and StazOn and a hanging charm using white shrink, StazOn and the Daily Junque stamps. Construct custom ephemera and tags with Girls Paperie ephemera, Dotted card, sticky back canvas, various stamps, Archival Ink and Distress Stains. Adhere to Pink Paislee Dragonfly paper.

Jolly Day Out - Designer: Elaine Hughes for Quixotic Paperie

Stamps used… Kraftin’ Kimmie – Elaine (includes sentiment)

Stamp the image and co-ordinating sentiment on Make it Colour Blending Card with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colour with Copic Markers. Cut out with Spellbinders Nestabilities dies and layer onto designer paper and cardstock before placing on a pre-folded card blank.

Venetian Splendour - Designer: Kate Bentley

Stamps used... Darkroom Door - Venetian Volume 1 (DDRS001)

Stamp the main Venice image twice and gondola once onto cream card using black ink. Use cream and grey pencil to add shading to the buildings on one image. Use grey and white pencil to shade and highlight the gondola image. Cut round the outside of the buildings on the left hand side of the shaded Venice image. Glue to the second image using foam pads to raise the cut out building. Paint the shadow box in gold paint. Cut a piece of cream card to fit the front surface of the frame. Stamp the Venice definition in Versamark ink and emboss with clear powder. Press a Black Soot Distress inkpad onto a craft sheet. Brayer over the ink until it is spread out into an almost invisible layer. Then, starting from the corner with the stamped wording brayer ink over the card frame building the colour from the words and lightening towards the top. Stamp the lamppost using StazOn black ink onto the inside surface of the glass. Assemble by using foam pads to attach the gondola to the background before enclosing the picture in the frame.

Parisian Chic - Designer: Riet van Zundert

Stamps used…  Stamping Sensations - Grungy Borders; Kanban - Moulin Divas Tres Chic; Katzelkraft - Paris; Tattered Angels - Timeless Romance

Stamp the lady with Colorbox Creamy Brown, cover her with masking tape. Stamp the scenery of Paris on the left and the right side of the lady - keep in mind that it has to stay within the measures of the frame. Stamp the frame with StazOn Jet Black.Remove the masking tape. Stamp the word ‘Paris’ with StazOn Jet Black and give it a shadow with Creamy Brown. Now smear a bit of the creamy brown on a acrylic block and mix it with a drop of water; use to colour in the frame. Cut out the frame and around the lady’s hair. Cut a piece of paper as a mat, but keep the top large enough to stamp the border with Creamy Brown. Mat the card with black cardstock.



Carte Postale - Designer: Lesley Crawford for Stamp Addicts

Stamps used…  Judikins - Square Postage Frame (JK 2690G), Eiffel Tower (JK 1867F), Calligraphic Flourish (JK 3348E), Mince Lace (JK2961I), Daydream unmounted set, Potpourri No.1 unmounted set. Stamp Addicts - Parisian Chick unmounted set. Printworks - Dreams Quote (PW F2857)

Create a background by stamping Eiffel Tower, text and flourish.  Stamp lace onto cream card using Antique Linen, add sentiment to the bottom, cut out and ink edges. Cut postcards from white card, distress with Antique Linen, draw a line and stamp carte postale, cancellation and postmark. Attach to background. Stamp face onto EcoArtboard, mask off and stamp text. Add colour using Distress Inks.  Edge the piece with silver ink. Stamp the postage frame onto black card using silver ink, cut out. Mount EcoArtboard to this and attach to the lace background. Layer the background to black card and A4 folded white card.

Old London Town - Designer: Helen Chilton

Stamps used… Artemio - London Modern (10001173)

Cut pages out of the old book and stamp in black with the various images. Cut some windows out of a scrap of cream patterned paper and stick round ‘London’ words. Add ribbons and buttons and stitch round the page and the quote elements in black. Further highlight the ‘London’ words with cream and white brads. Layer book pages onto white, then black card and hinge together at the back to make a concertina book. Add eyelets and beading to top left-hand corner of each page.

Longing to Go Out… - Designer: Mirjam van Saane for De Stempelwinkel

Stamps used… De Stempelwinkel - Family Car (N9303NS), Village Inn (EI M1977), Kenilworth (SW R090710), Winter Limb (CP N397), Leafy Bush Set (SUT F1321); Lyre Back Chair and Scroll Armchair (EI Q1848), Woman from Behind (RSA J6854H), Flowers and Lace Background (S4906NS). Stampscapes - Tree Trunk Trio (088F)

Stamp Family Car on the inside of a double card and mask. Stamp Village Inn on the right and mask, stamp Kenilworth on the left. Stamp Tree Trunk Trio on the left, and use Winter limb and Leafy Bush set to make branches. Stamp a fence at the bottom of the card. On the outside of your double card stamp Woman from Behind in the bottom right corner and mask. Stamp Scroll Armchair in the bottom left corner and mask. Stamp Flowers and Lace Background on the entire front. Cut out the window and colour your card. Use some ribbon to make curtains, and cover them with another piece of cardstock with a window cut out that is a few millimeters smaller than the outside window. Colour this piece of cardstock on both sides by sponging it with Distress ink and then glue it on the inside.

Ah, Paris - Designer: Susie Jefferson for Blade Rubber Stamps

Stamps used… Blade Rubber Stamps UM plate - Paris; Blade Rubber Stamps wood mounted stamp - Beret Girl

With cream card in portrait orientation, score in half lengthwise. Turn to landscape orientation and mark from left at 10cm and 20cm along top edge. Cut from top edge to fold line only, and fold all three sections down. Score a diagonal line on each section, from top left (fold line) to bottom right.
Using a paper cutter with a scallop blade, cut mats for each section:
Front: black card 9cm x 12cm; cream card 8cm x 10.5cm
Centre: black card 9cm x 13cm; text 8cm x 12cm; cream card 7cm x 11cm
Back: black card10cm x 15.5cm; cream card 8.5cm x 14cm; text 8cm x 13.5cm
Inside: black card 9.5cm x 27cm; cream 8cm x 26cm
Stamp the images for each of the sections and punch out using a large scallop punch. Layer onto the mats as shown to create decorative panels. Create stoppers by stamping Amour and Paris with black Archival ink onto text paper, and mounting onto scraps of black card. Fold the easel sections into position and mark onto the inner card. Glue the stoppers over the marks using silicone glue.
Adhere the card sections to the easel sections (this is easiest when the flaps are folded over in position) using silicone glue so positioning can be adjusted. Add paper flowers and buttons in centres. Highlight the lips on the ladies and sections of La Tour Eiffel with clear Sakura Glaze pen.

La Tour Eiffel - Designer: Chrissie Stokes

Stamps used… Creative Expressions U Mount - Eiffel Tower; Stampin’ Up! - French Foliage; Stempelglede - Grunge Flourish Hearts

Ink the background using Old Paper and Black Soot inks applied with sponge daubers. Spritz lightly with water. Stamp tower, splodges and the flourishes with Black Soot ink, sprinkle with holographic embossing powder and heat set. More splodges were stamped with Versamark and embossed likewise. The script and the postmark were stamped with Basic Gray ink. Cut out the square using a Nestabilities die and mount it firstly onto black and then cream cardstock. Dry emboss the card front using a larger Nestabilities Square. Mount the image using dimensional pads.



Homeward Bound - Designer: Laura Cooper for Artful Splodger

Stamps used…. Bombshell Stamps - Homeward Bound

Stamp the ship image from the Bombshell Homeward Bound set onto white card using Jet Black Archival Ink and use Tim Holtz Distress Inks to colour, then mat onto black cardstock. Next mat and layer designer background papers and black cardstock onto your card. Make compass embellishments by using the compass stamp from the set, white cardstock and Distress Inks, use a brad or eyelet for the centres. Stamp the homeward bound scroll sentiment onto card and colour, then cut out and stick this and the compasses onto your card using 3D foam.

Whitby Abbey - Designer: Hels Sheridan

Stamps used… Crafty Individuals - CI-227; Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection - Anthology (CMS 026) and Mini Classics (CMS 062)

Stamp the Abbey using Black Archival Ink. Blend Pumice Stone and Black Soot Distress Inks around the edges of the stamped cardstock and then use a waterbrush with Pumice Stone to lightly colour the Abbey. The birds flying behind the main image were stamped in black Archival Ink. Add a mini corner stamp using Black Soot Distress Embossing Powder to add texture to the card. Once the card is assembled, blend more Pumice Stone and Black Soot around the edges to finish.

Box of Delights - Designer: Carol Fox

Stamps used… IndigoBlu - Grand Tour 2; Crafty Individuals - CI-116; Lost Coast - Long Swirl

Paint the box in black acrylic. When dry apply a coat of PVA and crackle the cream paint over this (to get a good crackle gently dry with a heat gun). All the stamping is done using the Jet Black StazOn inkpad. Stamp the main image on the lid. Position the three words from the sheet on to an acrylic block so they fit nicely along the side of the lid and stamp these as shown. Stamp the butterfly on all four sides. Fill in any blank bits on the box with the crackle image stamp.Using the swirl stamp, embossing ink and white embossing powder, emboss the swirl image onto the lid as shown.
